stare into the sun

among the rubble and the weeds beside the road
i found a broken jar that held a weathered note
it said we’ll meet
so i put it in my coat
with bottle caps and cigarettes and funny coloured stones

take my hand
for a moment
we’ll stare into the sun
take my hand
for a moment
everything is gone

i smoked the cigarettes the bottle caps i sold
went to the river to return the coloured stones
my thoughts got tangled
into the grass I dove
a pair of brown eyes woke me up and said i told you so

and you see what i see and all beauty of being resounds in the shapes of the songs that no voice kens you breathe like the wind over mountains and seas through the grass and the trees and the seed in the ground ’neath your feet
